A U.S. judge has mandated Google to open Android to rival third-party app stores and allow them to manage app transactions independently. The ruling results from Epic Games’ 2020 lawsuit, aiming to counter Google’s monopolistic control over app distribution and in-app payments on Android devices. Google is told to allow alternative app stores to operate on Android devices starting November 1, 2024 for three years.
