UDF convener M M Hassan accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using his Independence Day speech to promote division on religious lines. Hassan argued that Modi’s remarks on the uniform civil code created an atmosphere of hatred, undermining the unity the country’s leaders like B R Ambedkar worked hard to establish.
