‘Wanted to come to Paris but Centre didn’t allow us’: Punjab CM to hockey team captain

Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann called hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh to explain he was denied permission by the central government to attend the Paris Olympics quarterfinals due to security concerns. Mann conveyed his heartfelt support and congratulated the team for their historic 3-2 victory over Australia, the first such win since 1972. Mann emphasized the pride and satisfaction stemming from India’s performance under Singh’s leadership. Mann who possesses a diplomatic passport, had plans to travel to Paris from August 3 to 9.
