The Congress criticised finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, claiming she misled NDA allies in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh with budget promises unlikely to materialize soon. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that the grand announcements would need years to take effect. “As Mahatma Gandhi said of the Cripps Mission in 1942– this is ‘a post-dated cheque on a crashing bank’,” Ramesh said.
