Ethnic Greek politician returns to prison in Albania after attending European Parliament opening

Fredis Beleris, 51, returned to Albanian prison after attending the European Parliament session. Arrested before May 14, 2023, he won Himara’s municipal election by 19 votes. Representing Greece’s New Democracy ticket with 238,801 votes, Greece claims the case is politically motivated. Legal immunity for European Parliament members doesn’t apply since Albania isn’t an EU member.
