Thane police booked five for extortion, casteist remarks

The police in Thane district, Maharashtra, have filed a case against five individuals for attempting to extort Rs 17 crore from a developer involved in the redevelopment of a slum colony in Badlapur. The accused, who also allegedly received Rs 2 lakh from the builder, reportedly used casteist slurs against certain members of the slum community. They face charges including extortion, criminal intimidation, and have been booked under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act
